From the game to the meaning: an action research in music appreciation class of elementary school
The students as the next generation of Indonesia should be have the meaning about richness of heritage. This paper ia an efforts to improve the meaning of the diversity of traditional Indonesian music in elementary schools. Learning intervention use quartet card game media in music appreciation class. The research model is classroom action research. Participants were 25 students of fourth grade an elementary school (SD) located in southeastern district of Karanganyar, Central Java, Indonesia. This study use qualitative approach with Lewin and Kemmis’s intervention cycle models. Data collected by observation and interviews. Data were analyzed by descriptive interactive approach. Findings were the use quartet card game provides opportunities for elementary students to build different meanings about the diversity of traditional music in Indonesia. The visualization of various traditional musical instruments embodied in the game card of the quartet has enhanced the students ability to interpret the diversity of Indonesia’s culture.
