The application of an assertive practice technique with role playing to decrease conformity behavior
The results of observation and interview with a guidance and counseling teacher of the X Junior High School (X-JHS) showed that conformity behavior of students on this X-JHS was high. This behavior has been shown by some negative behavior such as fighting, cheating, smoking, and truancy. They did the negative actions since they follow what their friends had done. A research related to the impact of the application of an assertive practice technique with role playing to the behavior of those students need to be conducted. This research aims to investigate the application of the assertive practice technique with role playing to decrease conformity behavior to those JHS students. The type of research is a pre-experiment design with pre-test and post-test one group design. The subjects of the research are 6 students of those JHS students who have the highest conformity behavior scores. All subjects were doing assertive practice technique with role playing as many 8 times of meeting. Data collecting technique that applied was conformity behavior questioner. Data analysis technique that applied was non-parametric statistic with sign test that can be determined on binominal test table with n = 6 and x = 0(z), whit the p value (the probability score below H0) = 0.016 for an error rate of 5%. The results of statistical analysis showed 0.016 < 0.05, then H0 rejected and Ha accepted. There was a differ on conformity behavior score before and after group counseling treatment delivered with assertive practice technique with role playing. The mean of pre-test marks was 209 and the mean of post-test marks was 147.67. It can be seen here that there was a significant decrease on conformity behavior of students with the mean of marks of 61.33. It can be concluded that group counseling with assertive practice technique with role playing can decrease the conformity behavior on the X-JHS students.
